Preservation of existing tanks
The pictures show the whole problem. Concrete and steel cannot withstand the acid attack. And: the epoxy resin cannot keep the
promises made by the sellers.
Of course, the coating with the synthetic resin works for a few years
resin works, at least apparently. The resin is certainly resistant
against all kinds of chemicals, but it is just as
extremely brittle, fragile and difficult to work with.
Coating/liquid systems - very briefly:
PRO:
- Absolutely resistant to chemical attacks
- Vprocessing also possible without special tools
CONTRA:
- Processing very labour-intensive
- only possible under ideal conditions
- Processing Temperature-dependent
- Processing Weather-dependent
- The substrate must be absolutely dry and clean (water blasting, sandblasting)
- the resin is very brittle and can crack easily - it is then then infiltrated ...
Polymersilicate
PRO:
- High resistance to acids, solvents, oils and greases greases
CONTRA:
- Processing very labour-intensive
- only possible under ideal conditions
- Processing Temperature-dependent
- Processing Weather-dependent
- The substrate must be absolutely dry and clean (water blasting, sandblasting)
Polyurethane
PRO:
- Permanently elastic and very durable
CONTRA:
- Processing only possible with special machines
- Processing very labour-intensive
- only possible under ideal conditions
- Processing Temperature-dependent
- Processing Weather-dependent
- The substrate must be absolutely dry and clean (water blasting, sandblasting)
Sodium silicate Basis
PRO:
- easy to process
- Processing also possible without special tools
- inexpensive
CONTRA:
- Substrate must be absolutely solid, load-bearing
- very brittle, fragile
Bitumen-Basis
PRO:
- easy to process
- Processing also possible without special tools
- inexpensive
CONTRA:
- Low resistance to many chemical substances
- Low resistance to mechanical stress
Plastic liners
PRO:
- Plastic liners and sheets made of polypropylene (PP) or polyethylene
polyethylene (PE) are absolutely resistant to chemical
attacks
- The liners are mostly standard liners/plates from different
manufacturers and prices
- Processing can be carried out in almost any weather and temperature
happen
- the substrate does not need to be specially pre-treated,
washing with a high-pressure cleaner is sufficient
(provided, of course, that the building has been repaired)
- the thickness of the coating is always the same
CONTRA:
- If you want to work over a large area, you need Lifting gear (crane)
